Eska

Eska is a modern two story restaurant located in the same building complex as the forum Karlin. I first saw it on my way to a concert at forum Karlin, and it was full of people grabbing a drink before the show. So instead of fighting the crowds, I made a note to come back another time.

A few weeks later, I returned to Eska on a Sunday for brunch. I had a massive amount of work that needed to be done on Monday, so I figured the best way to start was to eat myself into a food coma.

Eska is in Prague 8, and it’s about a twelve-minute walk from Křižíkova metro station.

On entering Eska, it feels kind of like you’re going into a club- even though it’s 10am on a Sunday. The music is pumping. I feel like I’m a bit under-dressed in my Sunday brunch expanding-comfy pants. Oh well, that’s never stopped me before.

I was seated on the second floor and given a menu with a great selection. It was hard to choose what to get, so naturally I ordered the largest possible meal that brings you a little bit of everything. While I was looking over the menu, I was brought bread, butter and salt that was so good I could have made a meal out of just that. But I’m not a quitter, so I proceeded to order a massive amount of food.

The breakfast Karlin comes with a sample of almost everything offered on the brunch menu. I enjoyed a cup of house-made kefir, that was unflavored and sour but really hit the spot for some reason, and an iced latte that was extremely refreshing. The food that came with the breakfast Karlin included scrambled eggs on toast with smoked salmon and vegetables, a plate of farmer cheese with jam that was crazy good, and a cup of fruit to top it all off.

Everything was amazing, but I’m not kidding when I say I would have been more than happy just to eat that bread with the salt and butter and the cheese plate. That cheese… so simple, so good.

Because that was not enough, the manager of the restaurant came out with the check and meringue cookies, asking how I enjoyed the food. Dang, this place does brunch right. It was the best brunch I had during my stay in Prague.
