Den Noc

Best pancakes I’ve ever had.

Den Noc is a tiny, cute restaurant tucked between two streets in the maze that is Prague 1. It is one of the five restaurants that received a five star review from yours truly.

To reach Den Noch, get off a the Náměstí Republiky metro stop and walk about ten minutes’ zig-zagging through the streets. It’s easiest if you have a map or can use google maps/apple maps app if you have service. My first trip took me about a 15 min walk from the metro to the restaurant.

On my way to Den Noc.

When I did find the place, I had to wait about 20min to get a place to sit. There are only a few tables, but luckily for me I was able to share a six-person table with a family of four. I was joined shortly by a girl from Detroit who filled in the last seat.

Only two people working in the front can make for a long wait.

When strangers are willing to sit so close together in a tiny restaurant, that’s usually a good sign that the food is worth the wait.

Prosciutto, pesto and goat cheese pancakes.

The hardest part is choosing which pancakes to indulge in, the offer both sweet and savory combinations. Good news is, they are all fantastic. I ordered the PBJ pancakes, which as a name really can’t convey how good these were. Three (European) sized pancakes came out with strawberry preserves and puréed peanut sauce. I also ordered the smoothie of the day, which was a meal in itself. My new friend from Detroit ordered a savory pancake combo that included prosciutto and goats cheese. She let me have a bite and it was just as good, but I was pretty happy with my sweet pancakes.

The girl from Detroit travels with a disco ball she has named Jerry, and runs a pretty amusing Instagram account that you can check out here.

Banana, pineapple and peach smoothie.

I liked this place so much that on my last full day living in Prague, a dragged a friend there for breakfast. Luckily we did not have to wait long this time for a place to sit- we got a table after about five minutes.

Miranda was not happy about the long wait, but the pancakes were worth it.

However, the place was still packed, and it took a long time for the pancakes to come out. As much as I wanted to order my PBJ pancakes again, I decided to try another highly recommended combo- brown sugar and bananas. I have no regrets.

Although they are most widely recognized for their pancakes, the café also functions as a wine bar. The back wall is actually covered with a pretty large wine rack.

In short, if I could only eat at one place in Prague it would be Den Noc. They currently hold my “best ever” award for pancakes.
